Alvechurch Picnic logo for 2020

Alvechurch Picnic in the Park 2020 now has its official logo, chosen from entries into the annual logo design competition. Local children were invited to create a design in red, white and blue or with a VE day theme to fit in with the event, which is being held on Saturday 9th May to tie in with the national celebrations to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. The judges were looking for logos that really highlighted the themes of red, white and blue, or VE Day – and they weren’t disappointed!

The organisers were delighted with the number of entries they received which made choosing a winner very difficult. The winning design was created by nine-year-old Evie. Thanks to all those who participated – the judges really were hard pressed to pick a winner.  All entries will be displayed at the Reception Centre on the day.

Take a look at the placed entries and those to receive a Highly Commended award:

And there may be another chance to win.. the organisers are hoping to arrange a bunting decorating competition ahead of the day, for all ages to enter. They will all be laminated and used to decorate the Picnic on the day.

Poppy reception in the Meadows

In keeping with the VE day celebrations parishioners are being invited to create poppies and Union flags which will be displayed at the entrance to the Meadows on the day. The creations can be made out of anything you can think of: they can be knitted, drawn, papier-mached…so get your creative thinking caps on!

As in previous years, visitors to the event at the Meadows will be wowed by a full entertainment programme of music and dancing and over 50 food and activity stalls, including the ever-popular pig roast, crepe stall and bouncy castle.

If you haven’t been to the Picnic before then why not come along from 11am for the Dog Show; 12 noon kicks off an afternoon of entertainment and activities until 5pm when you can head over to the Cricket Club for more live music, karaoke and family fun.

Hope to see you there in your best red, white and blue finery.  Details of more competitions to follow.  Watch this space or follow our Facebook page.
