the 2024 programme

The 2024 Alvechurch Picnic in the Park took place on Sunday 26th May at The Meadow, Meadow Lane, Alvechurch.  The day started with a fun Dog Show at 10.30am with the main event kicking off at 12 noon and an official opening with Alvechurch Ladies Cricket Teams!!  The day always runs until 4.30pm when we all move over to the Cricket Club for an evening of entertainment and more fun.

A MASSIVE thanks go to our Sponsors and Supporters – without them the day would go un-funded and our charities would not benefit anywhere near as much!  And another massive thank you goes to the Committee, the volunteers, the stallholders, the entertainers and the service providers – the day couldn’t go ahead with them.

We load the current Programme up a week or two before the event but in the meantime you can see what we got up to last year:

Visitor FAQs

We will do all we can to help you enjoy a wonderful day with us at the Picnic. We this in mind  we have prepared answers to a few frequently asked questions.

Can I bring a gazebo?
Yes, please feel free to bring a gazebo BUT we do ask you put these at the side of the entertainment viewing area – please ask a Steward for assistance. This is so you don’t block the view of either the Picnicers or the Stallholders. The stallholders are here to not only provide an activity, products or services but also to have a good day too.  We appreciate your consideration of others.

Is there parking at The Meadows?
No, sorry. The tiny car park at the Meadows is for use by the Organisers, and also needs to provide access to emergency vehicles, should we need them. Parking is available in  the small Tanyard Lane Car Park, behind the Red Lion and in the Square – please note restrictions though. If you park on adjoining streets please be considerate of driveways, access, road junctions and stay legal! Why not come by train?  They run every half an hour throughout the day and the station is just a 15 minute walk away from The Meadows.

Can I park down Meadow Lane?
No, sorry.  The residents very kindly keep the road clear for pedestrians and emergency access and a road closure will be in place from 10.00am to 5.30pm.

Is there disabled parking?

No, sorry. Meadow Lane, which is one way, is officially closed from 10.00am to 5.00pm to protect all those involved in the event.  The tiny car park is closed during these hours.  HOWEVER if you contact the organisers we can arrange for you to drop your passengers off before you go and park in the Blue Badge Holder bays behind the Red Lion. We will walk you up and down the lane to ensure safety for all. Please supply us with vehicle type, reg, colour and estimated time of arrival if you can.  See our contact details on Contact Us.

Is there food available?
Yes. Food stalls include pig roast, indian food, vegetarian options, cakes, snacks and an ice cream van available for all to enjoy, and many of our stallholders provide a range of food – cakes, biscuits, tuck shop and occasionally samosas, but please feel free to bring your own food and drink.  Many people bring chairs for comfort, tables and enough to feed an army!

Is there entertainment?
Yes, from 12 noon til 4.30pm in The Meadows.  The event then moves over to the Cricket Club for an evening of entertainment and more fun and laughter.

Are there toilets?

We do provide portaloos during the day and the evening.  There is one disabled toilet.

What happens in the evening?
The Picnic finishes in The Meadows at 5pm but we continue the entertainment and fun over at the adjoining Cricket Club until late. There is a licensed bar, music and food for all to enjoy.

What time does the Dog Show start?
The Fun Dog Show starts at 10.30 but please register from 10.00am as the Dog Show starts promptly.  Registration is on the day. There is a £1.00 contribution per dog per class to go to Cramar Cat Sanctuary in Hopwood. Please ensure your dog is on a lead at all times and under control.  And please clean up after them.

Where can I find bins?
The Meadows only has bins at the Car Park but bags will be provided for you to bag up your rubbish.  Please, please, please deposit these in the car park on your way out – the organisers are normally on their knees by this time so your help in clearing up The Meadows would be greatly appreciated.

Is alcohol available?
Not for sale at The Meadows. There is a licensed bar at the adjoining Cricket Club. Please feel free to bring your own but be careful of glassware, take your bottles/cans home and drink responsibly.
